I'm slowly but surely get my car sorted, money is tight, but she's getting there. Next item on the list is the clutch.
It started slipping about 2 months ago, it was hardly noticeable and I'm not a racer, mostly just cruising, so I put it off till later.

Symptoms include:
- Loss of power. I can barely get to 50kph in second gear unless I accelerate REALLY slowly
- Revving when accelerating. Sounds like the clutch is halfway in when I try to accelerate over 3000rpm. Car revs more than it accelerates.
- Lovely smell of burning clutch. Even when I'm just cruising. Taking my time to ensure smooth gear changes. I still get that toasty clutch smell when I get out of the car.
- First gear sometimes pops out. I'll put it in first when standing still, and it'll sometimes pop out justas I start to take my foot off the clutch.

So that's obviously a slipping clutch right?
Does it need to get replaced or are there cheaper methods of alleviating the problem?
Should I also replace the master/slave cylinders while I'm at it, I'm sure they haven't been touched in years.
Which clutch kit should I get for a standard 325i (1986 chrome bumper with LSD)?

Also, for interest sake, does the combination of clutch, gearbox and diff make a big difference in power to the wheels?
i.e. Do certain gearboxes work better with certain clutches, and do certain diffs work better with certain gearboxes?

Thanks

PS. Got awesome wheel spacers made for R800 in aluminium. But need extended bolts. 8 for 15mm spacers and 8 for 20mm spacers. Where can I get in Cape Town. Nobody seems to have.

Janjira or Mag Addiction should be able to help you with the bolts. ;)

Yeah, I've done some research on the forums and apparently LuK is German for KaK. :P

Anyway, I did some more research and found some interesting info.
Apparently some sort of oil leak onto the clutch could cause it to slip?
I remember shortly after having my gearbox replaced about 6 months ago, there was a light brown fluid leaking from the gearbox area, I only saw it leaking once and never again. Could this be related to the clutch problem?
If not the clutch, what could it be and should I have it checked out?

Bump...

Any advice here guys?

Got a quote from Eurobrake. R2500 for clutch plus fitment. Does that sound about right?
Anything else I should get checked while they are down there? I'd like to prevent any further issues in the tranny department.
I've been having some vibrations (quite a bit actually) when idling. Could it be flywheel? Prop?
Basically any other fixes that can be done while the tranny is out.
